Product Swatches: NYX Soft Matte Lip Creme

Hello everyone!

I’m back with another installment of my lip product swatches! I featured the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cremes as a part of my lip product collection last April, as a small portion of my matte lip products (which composes 2/3 of my entire collection). I thought that reviewing all of the matte products in one post would be too much for a single read, so I’ve decided to break it down even further into smaller collections!

According to the official website’s description, the Soft Matte Lip Creme is a “velvety, smooth product that delivers a burst of creamy color and sets to a stunning matte finish. Surprisingly durable, lightweight and delightfully creamy.”

IMG_3389The 10 shades that I have are not the full sized lippies, they’re actually the minis that come in the Soft Matte Lip Cream Vault (no longer available on the US site) that contains 36 shades, all named after the capitals of different countries!

As you can see, most of the shades that I took from the vault are the pinks and corals, but I also took a couple of the brighter shades (orange and berry shades).

Now on to my thoughts about the products:

Consistency

Unlike my other liquid lipsticks (Colourpop, Sephora, Kylie Cosmetics, etc.), the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cremes have a thicker, and more velvety consistency. While the other lip products are closer to a liquid, this product (as it’s name suggests) is a cream-type lippie.

It glides on pretty easily on the lips, and isn’t runny so you don’t have to worry too much about drying time.

Drying Time + Transfer

As previously mentioned, because this is a cream-type lip product, it doesn’t take a very long time to dry. 30 seconds should be enough, but I must warn that it doesn’t dry particularly as well as the other lippies.

This product has a tendency to transfer quicker than other products I’ve tried.

Pigmentation

The pigmentation of the lip cremes is pretty good. However, because it’s a cream-type instead of a liquid, it takes a couple of swipes to fully color the lip.

The lighter colors (Stockholm, Milan, Ibiza) are easier to apply on the lips fully without it looking spotty…with the darker and  louder colors (Seoul, San Juan) I would have to add an extra coating.

Stockholm (Mid-tone Beige Pink),
Milan (Mid-toned Blue-toned Pink),
Manila (Coral with Pink Undertones)

Although these 10 lippies are preselected colors from the entire vault, I still admit that I have shades that I favor over the others. Among the 10, I particularly like Stockholm for everyday use, because it’s an MLBB (my lips but better) shade. Other than Stockholm, I also like Milan on days when I want to wear a cooler shade of pink and Manila when feel like using a brighter and bolder color.
